Dr. Maxwell is a registered psychologist and the founding director of the Applied Psychology Centre. With over 30 years of clinical experience, he specializes in applied psychology, neurofeedback, cognitive rehabilitation, and performance optimization.
His integrative approach combines cutting-edge neuroscience with evidence-based psychological interventions to address clients' cognitive functioning, emotional regulation and general well-being.
Annie holds an Honours BA in Applied Psychology from Queen's University, with graduate studies in urban planning and public administration. She brings experience from correctional services, behavioural management, senior roles in the Ontario government, and private‑sector project management.
She joined APC more than a decade ago, contributing her strengths in psychology, systems thinking, and community service.
Comprehensive, science-driven psychological services tailored to your unique needs — from brain-based training to in-depth cognitive assessments.
Thorough psychological, neuropsychological, and quantitative EEG (QEEG) assessments providing detailed insights into cognitive function, emotional health, and brain activity patterns. Results guide personalized treatment planning and intervention strategies.
Advanced brain-based training that uses real-time EEG monitoring to help optimize neural function. Neurofeedback teaches your brain to self-regulate, improving focus, mood, sleep, and overall cognitive performance without medication.
Evidence-based talk therapy tailored to your individual needs. Our psychotherapy services address anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and life transitions using proven therapeutic modalities including CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based approaches.
Comprehensive stress management programs combining biofeedback, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and relaxation training. Learn to identify stress triggers, build resilience, and develop sustainable coping strategies for lasting well-being.
Unlock peak performance through targeted self-regulation and motivational strategies. We help athletes, executives, and students develop the mental skills needed to manage emotions, sustain focus, and achieve their highest potential.
Specialized programs addressing age-related cognitive decline, memory concerns, and brain health optimization. Through targeted cognitive training and neurofeedback, we help maintain and enhance mental sharpness at every stage of life.
We specialize in the assessment and treatment of selected functional neurological disorders (FND). These conditions arise from disrupted communication within the brain's functional networks, and cannot be detected by approaches that examine anatomy alone. Examples of these include functional gastrointestinal disorders, functional vestibular disorders (persistent postural perceptual dizziness), and functional cognitive problems (brain fog, long-term covid). By integrating functional neurophysiology and network‑based assessment, we re‑establish stable, adaptive patterns of brain activity by addressing the multiple symptom patterns that underlie FNDs.
Our approach in treating these problems begins with a comprehensive evaluation using electro‑imaging and psychological testing to identify the range and severity of symptoms that underlie these disorders. We then use advanced multichannel neurofeedback to target and retrain the highly interactive brain networks that underlie these disorders to reduce symptoms and restore self-regulation.
Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) sit at the intersection of brain, body, and experience. They are powerful and pervasive conditions that arise not from structural damage, but from disrupted communication within the brain's functional networks. These disorders often evade standard medical testing because the underlying problem is not visible on routine scans — it lives in the dynamic timing, connectivity, and regulation of neural circuits.
Before treatment begins, a precise and comprehensive assessment is essential. We use advanced electro‑imaging (QEEG / EEG‑based network analysis) to map abnormal patterns of brain activity and identify the specific networks involved. This is paired with psychological and neurocognitive testing to understand attentional, emotional, and regulatory factors that interact with the neurological presentation. Together, these tools provide a clear, individualized picture of the functional disruptions driving symptoms.
Examples of FND include:
These are network‑level disorders that respond best to interventions that directly address network functioning. Close ▲
